1632 Minicon
In April of the year 2000, a six-mile sphere centered on Grantville, West Virginia was displaced in space and time to Germany and May, 1631. The inhabitants of Grantville decided to start the American revolution early; the nobility of Europe were not amused.
This story, by Eric Flint, is the basis for a great deal of lively discussion on Baen's Bar on the Baen Book web site since 1999.
The 1632 universe has spawned sequels including a dedicated web site at www.1632.org, eight hard cover sequels, including an anthology, Ring of Fire, 1633, 1634: The Galileo Affair, 1634: The Ram Rebellion, 1635: The Cannon Law, 1634: The Baltic War and continuing issues of the 1632 universe's magazine The Grantville Gazette both as electronic and print editions. More books and magazines are scheduled soon.
The extremely active fandom of the 1632 series decided in 2003 that just chatting on Baen's bar wasn't enough, so they arranged the first "minicon" held at the site of the Ring of Fire in Mannington West Virginia (renamed to Grantville to protect the innocent.)Since then, the 1632 fans have been getting together at least once a year, often in Mannington, but most recently in Germany, at the landing site for the Ring, and in Tulsa Oklahoma. In 2008 the 1632 minicon will be co-hosted by Albacon, and great fun is anticipated by all.
Banquet
The banquet will be Saturday evening, usually 6PM to 8PM, but the time has not been finalized for this year yet. The menu will include a choice of a beef entree, a chicken entree, and a vegetarian entree. Due to planning timetables, the details of the menu choices will not be available until a few months prior to the convention. As soon as we have that information, it will be emailed out to those who signed up for the banquet.
More to come!
